Statistics seminars covering general and specific statistical topics have become a successful focus of ACOMED statistik's work. The training courses are conducted by Dr. Thomas Keller. In our advanced statistics courses, we avoid incomprehensible technical jargon and convey statistical concepts as "without formulas" as possible. This doesn't mean, of course, that mathematical relationships are completely absent, but rather that the statistics courses use as few formulas as possible and as many as necessary. Graphics, simulations, and examples are often more effective in conveying the required expertise.

In addition to statistical matters, we can also address the software-specific implementation of the analyses, e.g. statistics with Excel and/or R, evaluation of method validation experiments with Analyse-It®, etc.

We also use new opportunities of AI, e.g. for simple simulations of uncertainties of measures, or for sample size calculations.

Typically, participants in the statistics workshops are given the opportunity to send their own data or examples in advance, which are then integrated into the statistics seminar as discussion examples.

Statistics workshops are now mostly offered as online events. These training sessions are generally divided into several 3-4 hour sessions. Of course, in-house training is also possible; however, additional costs for travel and accommodation of the presenter must be factored in.

Read the following PDF documents for further information about the statistics seminars, and put together your seminar according to the modules.

Information about the statistics seminars

Seminar participants*

Seminar participants are primarily project managers (natural scientists, physicians) or product managers from companies in the clinical research, diagnostics, and pharmaceutical industries. Their educational background is usually in the natural sciences or medicine. Surprisingly, the statistics training of natural scientists (chemists, biologists, physicists) is often rudimentary. While natural scientists are certainly capable of acquiring the necessary expertise independently, they often lack the time or suitable projects. Consequently, their daily work is frequently limited to knowledge of specific methods, which ultimately significantly restricts the range of ideas and procedures needed for problem-solving. Incidentally, this limited expertise also often leads to the collection of excessive data for studies or experiments.

Seminar content

They are tailored to specific customer needs. They range from introductions to statistics and training in statistical software to instruction in specialized methods, such as statistical methods for evaluating diagnostics. Statistical content and software skills are often taught together.

Exercise content and data

Whenever possible, customer data is used in the statistics training sessions. This fresh perspective on familiar data is a key factor in the seminars' success. The participants' motivation is significantly higher, often leading to lively and engaging discussions.

iImplementation

The training is usually conducted online or on-site at the customer's premises (in-house seminar). For in-house seminars, it has proven effective to conduct the training over two half-days (afternoon and the following morning). Online training sessions are also typically delivered in several parts (3 x 4 hours, 3 x 3 hours, 4 x 3 hours, etc.).
